How To Choose The Right Size Goal For Your Garden
Share
Getting the right size football goal for your garden is one thing our customers can get wrong from time to time. It is not always easy to visualize a goal in your garden from an image on a website. Hopefully this guide will help you to make the right decision and avoid exchanging your selected goal for a larger or smaller size.
Goals Sizes
The measurements we give for goals on our website are for the width and then the height, so a 6ft x 4ft goal would be 6ft wide and 4ft high. The width of the goal is measured between the posts and the height of the goal from the underside of the crossbar to the ground.
Measure out the space in your garden
Use a tape measure to measure the space you have. Ideally, we would recommend taking up one third of the width of your garden for the goal. So, if your garden is 36ft wide a 12ft wide goal would sit comfortably in the space you have. A good tip to help you estimate the width of your garden if you have fence panels is the panels are typically 6ft wide. If your garden has 6 fence panels across the width, then it will be approximately 36ft wide.
How old is the person using the goal?
You may have the space to accommodate an adult size 24 x 8ft goal, but this may not be the best choice for you. Your 6-year-old budding goalkeeper probably would not appreciate trying to stop shots from Mum and Dad in a full-size goal!
Check the height of the goal against the height of the child using the goal. For example, a 6ft x 4ft or 8ft x 4ft goal may be suitable for a child up to the age of 6 or 7, an 8ft x 6ft goal for a child from 7 to 11 years old and a 12ft x 6ft goal for a child over the age of 11 years old. Of course this is only a rough guide. A goalkeeper may find that a larger goal is better whilst a striker may find a smaller goal better for accurate shooting practice.
Futureproof your goal purchase
Our uPVC Progoals will last for many years so you may want to plan ahead and perhaps buy a larger goal than you need now to allow your child to grow into the goal. This is provided that you have the space of course.
Use garden canes to visualize the goal in your garden
One last tip is to use a couple of garden canes to show how big the goal posts will look in the space you have and how this compares with the height of your child.
